![]() ![]() The success that we have achieved with the Marshall brand over recent years is soon going to be seen as having been the warm-up to a new British-Swedish headline act that is going to shake the tech and music industries to their foundations. Zound founder Konrad Bergström said: “I am proud that this deal has finally been completed. ![]() The deal follows a decade-long partnership between Marshall and Zound in which the Swedish company developed some of the technology behind a fresh range of consumer products including Bluetooth speakers and headphones. Terry Marshall said: “Since my father and I created the original Marshall amp back in 1962, we have always looked for ways to deliver the pioneering Marshall sound to music lovers of all backgrounds and music tastes across the world - and I’m confident that the Marshall Group will elevate this mission and spur the love for the Marshall brand.” ![]() Also, the popularity of the 'Plexi' was aided by the fact that PA systems were still in their infancy - and groups needed louder amps to fill bigger venues.Beginning with the JTM45, the amplifiers’ distinctive crunch sound became recognisable across scores of British and American blues and rock tunes in the 1960s, the 1970s and beyond, and contemporary models remain popular with guitar students and enthusiasts. While the nickname 'Plexi' describes all plexiglass paneled Marshall amplifiers built between late 1965 and July 1969 it is mostly associated with one particular amplifier that changed rock music forever: the 1959 Super Lead.Įvolving from the Super 100 head favoured by The Who, the 1959 became the amplifier of choice for Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and many more to follow. Over the past half century the Marshall stack has played a significant role in defining the sound of rock music, with the image of a wall of Marshall stacks onstage being one of the most enduring in rock history. So Jim and Pete came up with a practical solution - stack two 4 x 12" cabs together. The first amplifier now known as ‘Number One’ was born and due to great interest went into production under the aptly named JTM45, standing for Jim & Terry Marshall. The 8 x 12”, while devastatingly effective, proved too cumbersome to transport around easily. Using the same components, construction methods, materials and attention to detail we love in a Marshall amplifier they produce a truly authentic sound. The re-issues are based on the originals produced in the 60s and 70s. There are two channels giving you the ability to plug in your microphone and connect your instrument. With high clarity and low resonance, the range is designed to have rich clean tones and exceptional versatility. Jim and his team’s solution was to created the first 100 Watt Marshall amplifier, the Super 100 head, and the colossal Marshall 8 x 12” speaker cabinet. These iconic handwired Marshall amps deliver the traditional Marshall growl and bite to your sound. This vintage style acoustic amp has the features to satisfy any acoustic player’s needs, whatever the string instrument. Pete discussed the problem of not being able to get the volume he was looking for with his friend and ally Jim Marshall, and Jim set to work with his small team of engineers on solving the problem. Pete Townshend and John Entwhistle of The Who wanted more volume – to be loud enough to make sure they had their audience’s undivided attention. In 1965 The Who were performing in increasingly larger venues and their Vox amplifiers and speakers were simply not loud enough. 'Number One' today resides under glass in the Marshall museum. It was founded by an English musician, entrepreneur and constructor of sound equipment James Charles Jim Marshall in 1962. Placed in the window of Jim's shop, twenty three orders were taken on the very first day.
